He walked over to the new air purifier, pretending to adjust its settings. He looked directly into the hidden camera lens, his expression utterly blank. Then, slowly, deliberately, a smile spread across his lips. It wasn't a happy smile. It was a cold, sharp, mocking curve of his mouth, full of contempt and a silent promise. It was a smile that said, I see you. And your games don't scare me.
He held the look for a long moment, letting whoever was watching—Caius, James, some faceless security guard—see the defiance burning in his eyes. Then he turned his back on the camera and returned to his canvas, dipping his brush into a pot of jet-black paint.
