Unlike with Gideon and Sage, we have occasional chitchats and lots of jokes. A fleck of emotion went past those green orbs but it faded within a blink. Is it just the darkness inside this cellar or his eyes are really pretty up close? It wasn't really dark but only a few streaks of moonlight passed through the window. He slowly nodded, his head lowered. His eyes were looking at the floor as if there's something interesting down there. For a moment we broke eye contact. It was dead silence after that. We just stood there. My lips parted at the sight of dried blood on the edge of his shirt.

After a few minutes of silence and watching people going about their business, he spoke, “Sure.” I looked at him from the corner of my eyes. What?

" His side is motionless and quiet. My eyes move to the corners. I can see his arm through my peripheral vision, but not his face. I'm not sure what he's thinking. Then I sense him clamber down from the bed. Tears seep through the corners of my eyes unconsciously when I hear his footsteps leave the room.

Now he was looking at me from the corner of his eye. “No, not when there’s something I want.” My eyes went to his crotch. “I’m picky too.” With a last scorching look, I headed to the bathroom.

“I promise not to go overboard next time.” Looking at her closely, he noticed that her mask was a bit messy on her cheek side. Out of respect, he was about to fix it for her only to see something. He narrowed his sight on the skin under her eye and he was not seeing things. There was indeed a scar. It was not really visible but if one looks at it closely, it could be seen. Thinking that it was not really that big of a deal, he just shrugged it off and drifted off to sleep.

he muttered to himself as he squinted his eyelids. He squinted his eyes and racked his brain for where he could have seen such. He thought for a very, very long while but the idea wasn't getting to him anytime soon. He kept on squinting his eyelids as he gazed endlessly at his side view mirror, trying to think fast and figure this out but, yet, he couldn't. He then removed his hand from his engine, relaxed back in his seat, and immediately wound up his window to obstruct whosoever was in the car from seeing him inside.

Eyes on me. I turned around to find Lucas standing by a corner, his posture stiff, arms crossed, just watching us. There was no expression on his face, as usual, so I couldn’t tell what was going on in his mind. His dark gaze was fixed on me, unblinking, as if trying to see right through me. The air between us felt thick, charged with something I couldn’t quite identify.

Sure. But somewhere around the tenth fall, I noticed something. His eyes. He’d been rubbing at them earlier, blinking more than usual. At first, I’d thought it was just the glare of the lights, but now… now I wasn’t so sure. When I tugged the blindfold off between drills, I caught it. The faint redness at the corners. The way his gaze darted, sharp for a second, then slipping, unfocused, like the world wasn’t holding still for him.

The one that wasn't quite nothing and wasn't quite everything and lived somewhere in the space between them. The corner of his mouth moved. Just slightly. Just enough. That smile. The real one. Brief and quiet and completely changing his face. He looked at me for one more second. Then he turned toward the door. His hand found the handle. And then he stopped. Didn't leave. Just stopped, hand on the handle, his back to me. The corridor was quiet. The room was quiet. Everything quiet. He turned around. And looked at me with those steady hazel eyes that always seemed to be seeing slightly more than whatever was directly in front of them.

Only a priest's prayers could ensure that Daeleen received my eyes. Onlookers expressed envy, and some were even moved to tears by Samuel's devotion to Daeleen. What they did not know was that the romantic Capo they were admiring had plucked out his own wife's eyes, and that the owner of the eyeballs on display were now lying on a bed, staring into nothing but darkness. There was no painkiller being administered. All the moans from the pain left me panting for air, with only the ventilator to keep me from suffocating.
