“Isn’t it beautiful?”
“It’s a little… small, isn’t it?” Nuthatch asked.
I tried not to laugh. I’d already had this conversation with the head mage. “No, it’s not,” she insisted. “It’s perfect.”
“Okay, then.” Nuthatch took the blueprints he’d been holding and uncurled them, using his magic to make them hang in the air in front of the place where Mage Jaye wanted me to create the school.
“There you are, Harlow. Get to work, dear,” Mage Jaye cooed, patting me on the arm. This was about the first pleasant thing she’d ever said to me, and it was only because she wanted me to do her bidding.
