"You're away." She let go of the branch and fell unceremoniously towards the earth. Although unnecessary, Shane caught her in his arms. "Tell no one," she muttered, staring suspiciously at the web. "She doesn't really have pet spiders does she?" "Black widow," Banshee said, overhearing everything, "brown recluse, three species of tarantulas --"

Becky mused. “They are called giant crab spiders. At school, we were taught they are distantly related to tarantulas, but they have no venom though their bite can hurt humans. They usually live underground and only emerge to hunt at night. It required a great disturbance to make them migrate—a disturbance like the monsoon.”

"I love you, baby." "I love you too," I begin to say, but my eyes widen as I notice a hairy spider crawling over Max's shoulder. "Don't move." "What-" I quickly cover his mouth with my hand, my eyes fixed on the creepy crawler. "I said, don't move." Rolling his eyes, he mumbles something like, "Isabella, it's just a spider. It's not a big deal." "It's not just any spider," I whisper back, watching as the Brazilian wandering spider's red fangs sink into Max's skin. Judging by his sudden change in expression, he's aware of it too. "Fuck!" Max growls, knocking the spider off his shoulder and clutching his soon-to-be inflamed skin.

It surprised me somewhat when they had ready answers for all questions. A priest at São José had found the particular spider from which the event had evolved, hanging from the hammer of the bell in the church tower. Though the creature, according to the account, was at least two inches long, it hung from a single silken thread, the red and yellow markings on its back catching the sun as it stirred in the light breeze coming through the windows. The priest was so impressed that a thing so reviled could be so beautiful that he kept it as a sort of church mascot and a testament to the complexity of God’s designs. It was given a terrarium in which to live out its days in the reliquary, where it

He pulled the knife out and along it came a stream of red liquid that dyed my lower dress red but also tainted his clothes as well, “I told you I’d take responsibility and leave for somewhere far away!” The tears continued to stream down my face. he said and touched Ana's belly rubbing it gently. "How far are you?" he asked. "Five months," Ana replied. "Hmmm, I can't carry a C-section on you. The baby will die," he said and pouted his lips. Chills ran down Ana's body and her eyes widened at his statement. "So this is what is going to happen. You are going to tell your stupid husband to stop whatever he is trying to unearth. If he continues, once he is done digging the earth, I will bury you, Dr Jerome, all these stupid servants and your stupid husband. I will come with something to keep the child alive when I carry out a c-section on you. I will not seal you up. I will leave you like that to die slowly," he said and laughed.

"But you are in a very dangerous position, Miss Sarah. That is the name on the ID we found in your bag, correct?" I nodded slowly. Sarah. I had to remember I was Sarah. "The fall was bad," the doctor continued. "But the real problem is your body. You are exhausted. You are not eating enough. Your blood pressure is very high, and the baby is under a lot of stress. You are having 'threatened labor.' That means your body is trying to give birth too early. You are only seven months along. If that baby comes now, his lungs won't be ready." I felt a tear slip down my cheek. "I have to leave. I can't stay here. They will find me."

"Why can’t I get pregnant when everyone else can?!" I shoved her back coldly. "Relax. I told you, my fortune cookies… You’ve eaten so many already. The reaction should come any second now…" Her eyes widened. The next second… Boom! A violent explosion rang out from beneath the floor. The entire house shook from the blast. Cracks spread across the ceiling like an earthquake had hit. "Was that an earthquake? No, why didn’t I get any alert?" "But that shake just now felt real, like a strong tremor!"
