She asked Alex about his investor call, made jokes at my expense, and generally acted like a woman who belonged exactly where she was. This was who she was meant to be. Confident. Happy. Free. And watching her come into her power was one of the most beautiful things I'd ever witnessed. Later, after the dishes were done, I found her in the library, curled up in one of the leather chairs with the copy of Pride and Prejudice that Alex had given her. "Good book?" I asked. She looked up, marking her place. "I've read it a dozen times, but it never gets old. There's something comforting about stories where everything works out in the end."

"Can we explore more of the library? I'd love to see what's in some of these sections." "Of course," Armani says, rising smoothly. If he's disappointed by the change in direction, he doesn't show it. "I think you'll particularly enjoy the rare books collection. They have a first edition of *Pride and Prejudice*." "Are you serious?" My literary heart skips a beat. "That's my favorite book of all time."

I am a composed man and an extraordinary businessman so I should not get distracted. When we reached the top, it immediately went directly to the CEO's office and the staff didn't come in with me already. No one was in there yet so I got the chance to look around the office. I wanted to check it out but the shelf is up to the tenth row so I'll need a ladder to get it. Also, I can't risk getting

Of course, he probably gifted countless women with books, jewelry and other expensive stuff to seduce them How typical of you.” “You talking to yourself again, cuz?” Ami’s head suddenly appeared from her door. Startled, Mabel scolded her cousin. “Ami, you must stop this habit of yours eavesdropping. It is very unladylike!” “Oh ho! Since when did you mind me eavesdropping? Wooden crates repurposed as shelves lined one of the shorter walls, packed with books of all shapes and sizes, and Ashlyn couldn't help the gasp that passed her lips when she saw the worn copy of Pride and Prejudice that poked out from the center. She took the book in her hand and turned a bright smile on Derek. She pointed to him, then to the book, she clutched against her chest. She didn't know he was a reader — a fan of Mr. Darcy, no less. Derek's sun-kissed cheeks took on a red undertone when he nodded. Ashlyn's heart stuttered, her admiration for this man growing.
