He took a deep breath as her hand felt his heart beat faster. “My heart beats for you, Fatima Mendez,” he whispered. He grabbed the black box and opened it as she stood there in silence. She looked down at the box and saw it was a ring. “This is a promise ring. If you accept my feelings, I assure you that I will take care of you, be there for you, and treat you the best I can. I’ll make sure to make you the happiest woman alive,” he explained and took out the ring and grabbed her hand as she stared at him dumbfounded.

I squealed. He laughed "you know me better than that. Now this isn't really what it looks like but I feel obligated to give it to you" He pulled out a box from his pocket. I furrowed my brows together in confusion. He opened it and inside laid a beautiful diamond ring. It was rose gold with sterling silver and diamond wrapped around it with a huge one in the middle. "It's a promise ring" he said quickly. "Oh my goodness I love it!!" I squealed.

"Dinner, dancing, roses—the works. But standing here with you now, none of that matters." I pulled a small box from my pocket. Her eyes widened. "This isn't a proposal," I said quickly. "Not yet. It's a promise." I opened the box to reveal a platinum ring with a deep blue sapphire. "A promise that I'm in this—all in. That I'll fight for us every day. That I'll never push you away again." She stared at the ring, then at me. "Cassian..." "You don't have to answer now," I said. "Take all the time you need. I'm not going anywhere."

I just shook my head, clueless. She did not push for answers, instead offering a bit of comfort, "You're looking a bit pale. Why don't you go lie down for a bit? I'll take the little one for a bath, get her settled, and before you know it, it's bedtime." I nodded tiredly and watched her carry Ruby upstairs before collapsing onto the couch. I pulled out my phone and scrolled through the latest news. That was when I found out why Ruby's picture was plastered all over the mall. Alfred had gone and bought advertising space on the big screens in malls across the globe.

Well, maybe that is the only way she believes people. "Yes, I promise," I reply to her. "So, what's with you and promise? You always ask for a promise whenever we are talking," I ask her out of curiosity, even though I know that it's crazy. "That's the only way I get to believe what people say to me," She shrugs as I expected, and I scoff. Does she think people will always keep their promises to her just because they made the promise? I ask myself and shake my head. She is still a kid, so she definitely does not know anything about life.

And I- 'That's so bitter Craig, not all people were the same.' The guy beside me stated with a cheeky smile flustered on his face. My palms instantly fisted at the sight of him. Yukii, stop that. 'Nahh, what for? I'm right anyway, it's not like everyone is the same right? Besides, there are two types of promises. The real and meant one and the real but must be broken one. Either way, promises were made because it's meant and intended to be done but against this world, breaking such thing is inevitable.'

The one who believed in nothing. — Then we'll do it, I say. She turns to me, eyes wide. — What? — We'll do it. If it's your dream, it's my dream. If you want the world, we'll have the world. If you want my name, I'll take yours if you want. If you want promises, I promise you everything. — You... you're serious? I take a box from my pocket. — I've had it for six months. Her mouth opens. No sound comes out.

I’m certainly not proposing you this way or this soon despite how much I want to (just so you know, I’m dead serious about proposing to you someday, just not today) This is a promise ring (I believe that’s what they call these days) I give you this ring to say that I’m so in love with you and that I promise to make you the happiest person in the world. I know you don’t love me yet but that’s okay. You said you trust me with your life and I promise that I’ll do anything to keep that trust. I just hope you don’t lose faith in me, ever. I’ve made a lot of promises to you over the years since our childhood. I’ve kept every one of them and I intend to keep them all – new and old.
