The sun dipped lower, gold streaking across the waves. Then I saw it, a pier stretching out into the sea, its tall pillars rising from the water like guardians. Two men sat at the edge, fishing lines dangling lazily. “Help!” My voice cracked, raw and weak. I coughed hard, spitting salt, trying again. “Help me!” The dolphins surged ahead, whistling and chattering loudly, their bodies breaking the surface in a chorus of splashes. The fishermen froze, staring. One dropped his rod, scrambling to his feet.

Philip staggered back from this punch while Chip still stood in the distance calmly. “Hehe, is that your strength, Young Patriarch Clarke? If that’s all you have, you’re doomed today!” Chip bellowed. Philip steadied himself and said with a flash of chill in his eyes, “Chip Larson, do you think I’d be afraid of you?” Chip’s eyes flashed a strange black as he raised his palms abruptly. Boom! The sea seemed to be torn apart, and the huge blue whale appeared again. It opened its jaws and inhaled in the direction of Philip and Fennel as well as the battleships behind them!

I raised my gaze from the water to see a pod of dolphins, at least four or five of them, leaping through the water. “Dolphins!” I squeaked with excitement, jumping up and down with glee. Which meant I promptly fell face first into the water. “You okay?” Bastian asked, saving my paddle for me as I climbed back onto my board. “Dolphins!” I squealed again, grinning with sheer delight. Bastian laughed at my childlike enthusiasm as the pod swam closer. I wished I could touch them, but they changed direction and went off in search of food in deeper water.

He tugs at the end of the pillow in his hand and continues, “It’s a great big ocean out there with plenty of fish to catch. And even if you miss the great whale, who’s to know? You might meet a dolphin or two at the party.” He shrugs. “Dolphins aren't too bad either you know?” I let Ares’ words sink in. I know he means well. I smile and drum my fingers at the railing, trying to make light of the situation, “Technically, dolphins and whales are not fish. They’re mammals.” Ares rolls his eyes and throws the pillow in my face. ***** I end up attending the masquerade party and stand at the entrance of a huge vintage iron gate. Two guards stop us and Ares holds up his hand in salute.

If the pup—kid—cared this much about her, maybe she cared about him, too, and why not kill two parrotfish with one strike? Yeah. He’d use the kid as bait to lure Angel out of her royal air bubble. Wouldn’t that be a bait and switch? Mers were all about protecting the young—even Human young. He’d seen some perfectly fine cruise-ship meals pass him by, thanks to those damn altruistic Mers-turned-dolphins. Dolphins. Blech. Mammal, or a Mer who’d turned into one for whatever idiotic reason they came up with, the result was the same: perpetually smiling, happy do-gooders. Made him want to puke.

But now, it all became usual. Now guards don't overreact to us and freely move outside of the room. Pearl started enjoying the new life on the cruise ship. But we are sad as nowhere a land to see. If we can see something around us was only ocean. One day, we were on the board and I saw two dolphins in the ocean. I remembered Candy and Coral. I show those dolphins to Pearl. She chirped happily and started jumping happily. After a few minutes, they came closer to us and shouted, "Candy... Coral..."

I feel their pain, their longing to be with their families, and it breaks my heart. The sound of the killer whales and dolphins fills me. Their loss is evident at their songs of mourning, mourning their calves that died and the families they were taken from. I will free them and every fish and creature in this wretched place. Divers jump in and I turn and flash my fangs at them before I dive deeper and swim against the sand. My hand rubs against a shark who is sleeping and I chuckle as its eyes open and he wiggles on the sand forming a sand cloud, now these remind me of pups, always wanting affection and a good scratch under their chins which I will gladly give.

We walked to the tunnel where it travels around the aquarium. "Sharks!" I pointed at the sharks who pass by. "Stingrays." Jayson pointed at the stingrays. "What is that?" I pointed at the weird fish. "It looks like you.." He touched my nose and I pouted "That fish looks like you.." I pointed at the ugly fish. "I'm more handsome than that." "Oh yeah?" I chuckled. "Hey let's see the dolphin's show!" He pulled me to the dolphins venue. We sat in the middle row. The show started as we sat down.

Alora looks over at me with a radiant smile, "This is amazing, Lorenzo, thank you so much for bringing me out here." I smiled back at her warmly, "Anything for you." We continued to sail through the waves until we came across a pod of dolphins leaping through the water. Alora gasped at the sight and I could see the excitement bubbling within her. I turned off the engine and we watched as the dolphins swim and play around us. Alora’s eyes widened with wonder as she watched them, "They're so beautiful." I nodded in agreement, "They really are. Watching them is like watching pure joy in motion."

Alex’s jaw dropped. “They… flying,” he whispered. “That’s how they move,” I said. “They don’t swim like fish.” “They slow,” he said. “Like they sleepy.” “Maybe they are.” He giggled, eyes shining. I found myself watching him more than the animals. Every expression he made—shock, joy, disbelief—was like a punch to the gut. More like a reminder. A reminder of what I almost didn’t have. We reached the dolphin enclosure and Alex screamed so loud the people beside us jumped.
