Relief flooded me so hard my knees nearly gave out.
“Hey,” he said softly when he saw me. “I’m okay.”
I rushed to his side anyway, gripping his hand. “You scared me.”
“I know,” he murmured.
The doctor entered moments later, holding a clipboard. His expression was serious, professional.
“We ran additional tests,” he said. “And the results are consistent with what we found last time.”
Damon stiffened. “The poison?”
“Yes,” the doctor replied. “It’s a chemical compound called Pure. Highly toxic in its undiluted form. In small doses, it causes dizziness, fainting, cardiac irregularities.”
