Pursuing Her Novels & Stories

Stealthily, I followed until I found her crouching by a shrub and humming a tune. The dark brown shrub shivered and shimmered until it released several pink spurts which she dashed and grabbed. She caught a few before they dissolved to nothing. I was amazed. Why hadn't I seen such a shrub before? From there she moved on and I followed, entranced. She was in search of something, pausing a few times to check a map in her hands and retrace her steps. I followed in the shadows like I was under a spell. I watched her until I couldn't anymore. Dusk was falling and instead of returning to the pack, she continued moving forward.

"Why can't you? Are you that busy this coming end of the week?" She didn't look at me. "I'm making drafts for the university I want to go to. I don't want to make this an easy one since it's a big school for architectures," she said. She's given me the cold shoulder since we went back. I've been catching up with her three days apart, but still, I have this gut feeling that she's just making these excuses for not having me by her side. I was hurting for real because this is the first time we've gone through this.

"Again, I can't wait to get him back. Peace." Saying that, she walked away. My hands were in a fist, my body boiling in anger. I wished I could eliminate this woman, but of course, I wasn't a murderer. What was she even doing here? Why did she not want to give up on my man? So annoying. She stretched her arm sideways, again cutting my way. "Who is he to you?" She asked, quirking her perfectly picked eyebrow. "My friend," I said and again stepped aside to walk.

It would take time, but it was the best way. But she didn’t want to split anything. Didn’t want to work together. Didn’t want anyone slowing her down. She would do this by herself, and she would finish this trial alone. She deserved it, camaraderie be damned. She didn’t care about the others and the humiliation they would face. If they weren’t good enough to stop her when she was all alone, then they didn’t deserve to advance with her anyway. She was already earmarked for final selection - she was the favorite. Clearer now. She gasps sharply. Her heart twists painfully. “There!” she breathes out, and without wasting another second, she bolts forward. Every part of her aches, but the adrenaline surges stronger. Behind her, one of the guards yells breathlessly, “What is she chasing? What’s out there?” Another pants, “She just keeps yelling about her pup… her little boy…” “She’s gone mad… but we can’t leave her!” They keep running after her, but they’re too far behind now.

My father stopped and commanded his men. I escaped from his sight somehow and kept following them to check what was actually happening. I heard some crying and muffled voices from the other end as I walked closer. Then I realised that I saw that girl holding a piece of rock trying hard not to fall. She begged me harder “Help me, please.” She struggled to speak.
