" He winked at me. I averted my gaze uncomfortably. "That would be nice. I'd join you both to ignite my revenge." Joyce cackled, oblivious of my discomfort. "You won't be able to get away with it anyway, thanks to your gobbledygook tongue." He mumbled. "Hey, are you trying to insult me? What the hell is gobbledygook?" Joyce grumbled. I laughed slightly. "Don't worry babe, he made up the word. It doesn't exist." I soothed.

"Lois! What's going on? Where are the girls?" Lois turned towards Zach, her eyes filled with anguish and tears streaming down her face. The pain in her voice was palpable as she struggled to find the words. "Zach... they're gone. Nancy and Kamsi... they're missing. We can't find them anywhere," she choked out, her voice quivering with a mixture of despair and desperation.

And this is even too early for weird shit to be happening. I kept calling out for mum, hoping she was around. But the tight feeling in my chest and the way my insides turned weren’t good signs whichever way you want to look at it. Heading up the stairs in tippy toes so I could check her room, I stopped when I heard something. It sounded like laughter. Wait, I’m sure it was laughter. But I have never heard that voice in my life before. I let the sound lead me to the door of the basement. That was the way to mum’s office and I have only been there a few times.

My girlfriend was a chess prodigy while I had trouble playing checkers, but she always let me win. When others questioned if I deserved her, she would tell them with unshakeable conviction, "I'd rather lose everything than lose him." Later on, she joined the national team while I stayed in a local college. Despite being apart for four years, we were always on video calls, and I'd travel over to visit whenever I had a break, even if it meant watching her from a distance through the training camp fences. We never thought we'd drift apart until one competition, where she blundered across seven rounds because she was playing a certain handsome youth. I knew right then that it was over betwe
