A fourteen-year-old girl, huffing, struggling to get enough oxygen for her lungs to function smoothly. Her tiny frame was trembling like a leaf, cheeks stained with tears. She was holding a shiny object in her shaky hands close to her chest, as if her life depended on it. The girl was none other than I, Rachael Santiago, the daughter of Raphael and Vanessa Santiago.

“My goodness, you scared the life out of me!” Aunt Caroline was a short and plump woman in her mid-forties. Her hair was always dyed blonde because she took after her idol Madonna. She kept her face hidden with all the cosmetics she covered it. The only time she was seen without her make-up was when she applied facial mask. “Aunt Caroline? What’s got you all fired up?” Yet inside Ellaine’s head she was still thinking about the empty town and the huge tree. “You were having a bad dream!”

My eyes are a forest green and if you look closely you can see gold speckles in them. My skin is an olive tone, and I have about a dozen light freckles sprinkled over my face. My lips are full and a dull shade of pink. I am one of the shorter girls of my pack, measuring a whopping 5'3" and weighing 125 lbs. "She should have parished with the bitch that manipulated you! She is the byproduct of having a child with someone who is not your mate!" sneered my stepmother.

Rhea's POV I blinked at them. Jason’s voice cut through the hospital room like he was the victim here—as if he had just spent days locked in a basement. Rachel was close behind him, arms crossed tight, her expression pinched and judgmental. Damien slinked in last, keeping his distance like the coward he always was. I shifted in bed, pain lancing up my spine. My voice was calm, but it held an edge sharp enough to cut glass. “And what does any of that have to do with me?”

Rachel questioned, she was already running on adrenaline, she always protected her sister even in school from bullying, she couldn't let the person get away with it. "It's...it's Jason," Cara said, sniffing. The blood was already dried to her face and she had eye bags under her eye of her pale white face, she looked like she hadn't slept or eaten in three days. "Jason?!" Rachel raged. Since he lost his job he has been acting like a dick, bossing them around their own house and now he has the audacity to hurt his sister, she wasn't going to let him get away with it.
