Honestly, the plot kind of disappointed me compared to the hype. It's about this girl, Bel, whose mother Rachel vanished years ago during a climate protest that got extreme. The family is basically a spectacle, doing this reality show about the disappearance. Then, shocker, Rachel just walks back into their lives one day. The core is Bel trying to figure out if this woman is really her mom or an impostor, while dealing with a media circus and a family that's falling apart in new ways.

The whole 'is she or isn't she' mystery was fine, but I felt the book was more interested in being a commentary on performative activism and family trauma packaged as a thriller. The tension comes from the emotional fallout rather than a traditional investigation. By the end, I was more interested in Bel's messed-up relationship with her brother than the central mystery's resolution.

Yeah, that one's everywhere now. 'The Rachel Price' is pretty much front and center on the major bookstore sites. I just picked up my copy from Amazon; delivery was quick. I know some folks have strong feelings about where to buy, but for pure convenience, it's hard to beat. My local bookstore's site also had it, and I'd probably go that route next time just to support them, even if it takes an extra day.

One thing to check is the format. The hardcover has this really nice, textured cover that looks great on the shelf, which I'm a sucker for. The ebook version was a couple bucks cheaper, obviously, but I wanted the physical thing for this one.
