God forgive me. I slipped out of the building, every step heavier than the last. Nathan’s POV I leaned back in my chair, swirling the whiskey in my glass. Power tasted sweeter when it came from someone else’s fear. The door creaked open. Ramsey shuffled in, his notebook clutched to his chest like it held his beating heart. “Well?” I asked, voice smooth but sharp underneath. He cleared his throat. “She… Rachel… they’ve set the release date. Three weeks. Everything is almost finalized.”

As the thud of the heavy leather hit the floor and echoed throughout the endless room, books started flying off the shelves, pages fluttering towards me in a whirl of turbulence, surrounding me like a twister. An abundant amount of words flamed from each page that quivered like a feather as it blew around me. The words; burned their sacred information into my eyes, soaking up each and every paragraph and phrase, a fountain of knowledge hurling itself at me and my wolf, consuming me and etching their distinct meaning into my very consciousness. And amongst the fluttering fury surrounding me, I saw Kellen, watching. “Miss. Langley, would you care to answer the question?” huh? I had tuned every

She smiles at me like she appreciates that I asked. “Anything else Raven?” She looks at me, not at the other women. “No, I think I covered everything.” “Okay, Em, you’re first.” We come from the stage as the first woman dances, and she looks amazing. It’s clear the women here can dance. The second dancer kept missing a beat, but clearly through her nervousness. Lucy, the third dancer panicked before even starting and ran. I’m now standing watching Rachel, I’m dancing next. The music starts and she begins to dance, having no issues, I watch the men whistling and trying to grasp her and see her freeze.

“Rachel—” “I know what that life demands,” she interrupted softly. “And I don’t want it.” Ralph looked confused. “You would walk away from an empire people spent years protecting?” Rachel nodded slowly. “Yes.” Rachel glanced briefly toward Dominic before continuing. “I spent most of my life surrounded by manipulation, violence, betrayal, and fear.” Her voice remained calm but heavy. “I don’t want my children growing up around that.” Dominic’s expression softened immediately at the word children.

I hope that we can get by all the stuff that has happened, and she will not hold it against me for disappearing. Scarlett got up and went to the bathroom to tidy herself up. I chucked on a pair of shorts and went into the kitchen to wash my hands and get a drink of water. I could hear small branches snapping outside. There must be a deer wandering around close again to the cabin as the branches snapping sounds like it is right outside my front door.

She was about to return the book when a white piece of paper fell from it. Quickly, her attention was drawn to the paper. From a distance, she could catch a glimpse of one word, "Scott." Her eyes widened in shock as she bent over to pick up the paper. "Don't read that! It's not for you!" Elsie muttered under her breath, the pain becoming too much for her to handle. She closed her eyes, wishing she could die so she could be reunited with her mother. "Shut up, you annoying brat!" Dahlia scolded harshly.

I Chapter Four: Reality Rachel's POV I am sitting in the café, my body tense as a spring, and the soft hum of life around feels so far-off unreal. My fingers trace around the rim of the untouched coffee cup in front of me, and I find myself glancing at the clock on the wall. Fifteen minutes. My mind races between the warmth around me and cold dread crawling up my spine. I shouldn't be here. I shouldn't have come. What was I thinking?

And maybe, just maybe, I’d get to see her push back again. 6:30 couldn’t come soon enough. ALICE RILEY I couldn’t let go of the opportunity to meet Vivian Scott again.
