I paused behind a low stone wall as the heavy thud of fists striking wood carried through the morning air. There—at the center—was Rafe. Bare-chested, sweat slicking his skin, muscles rippling as he moved with a kind of dangerous precision that was beautiful and terrible at once. He didn’t fight like the others. He moved like a predator—sharp, powerful, impossibly fluid. His knuckles were bruised, blood dark against his skin. His jaw was clenched hard, each strike carrying the weight of something he couldn’t seem to let go of. Or maybe someone.

“That’s fair. You said you knew her. What was she actually like? What was Knox like with her?” Rafael is quiet for a long moment, considering. “They were beautiful together,” he says finally. “In that way that doomed things are always beautiful. You could see, watching them, that they were consuming each other. That kind of love that devours in the worst way. Almost toxic in some sense.”

I did look sexy though. Rafe leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed over his tattooed chest. His usual cocky grin sat on his face, but his eyes held a sharp warning tonight. "Remember," he said, voice low and smooth, "Our newest client does not like to be disappointed. This one is powerful. Really powerful. The kind of man who can make problems disappear with one phone call or create them. So you smile pretty, you obey, and you make him feel like a god. Got it?"

I agree, a real moment of sympathy for the child. “So what’s he like? Rafael Lamington.” Camlo asks, her eyes wide with curiosity. I shrug, pretending not to care. “I guess he’s all right.” Ara and Camlo look at each other. "Is that merely all right?" Camlo asks “Yeah “Is he as handsome as he is in the pictures in the Tatler magazine?” Ara asks. “No? Not really…” They both burst out laughing, once again. "You find him attractive, don't you, Zeo?" Camlo says, giving me a poke with his elbow.

I shake my head a bit, always loving the way my hair feels against my bare skin. His green eyes are nearly brilliant with what little moonlight is casting down. His hair is wild and Goddess he’s handsome. He’s sexy and the confidence he has in what he’s doing, what we’re about to do… Is everything I want it to be. Parker has that same confidence which I often mistake for arrogance. But it’s not the same thing. Rafe is just so different when he’s away from the pack, there’s no one to put on a show for, and he certainly doesn’t need to do that with me.

She rolled her eyes, but there was something deeply satisfying about the way he held her, like she belonged nowhere else but by his side. Just then, a familiar voice called out, “Kieran.” They turned to see Rafe approaching from a hallway that branched off toward what looked like offices. He was dressed casually, but there was always a grounded intensity to him that made Aria feel like he was always planning something in the background. “Do you have a minute later?” Rafe asked. “I want to go over the route to the Ashfall territory before we head out.” “Yeah,” Kieran nodded. “Give me twenty minutes, I’m just heading back to shower, and I’ll be right back.”

But Rafe is in University, older than my sister. Something that bothers my dad, but not when his daughter, is so happy with him. Rafe is an Italian, who moved to London, a few months ago. He and my sister met, typically at a club night. And they clicked. With his Italian tan, brown shaggy hair, and grey eyes, he swept my sister easily from her feet. It was not even a week and they were already dating. He treats her well and keeps her happy. Not only that, but with his charming pearly, white teeth smile, and smooth talk, he won everyone, including me.

Her laugh came easily, and she knew how to throw a look over her shoulder that could make a priest reconsider his vows. Next to her was a stranger who definitely wasn't strange to attention. Rafe was tall and golden, all long limbs and rolled sleeves, with sun-kissed skin and a lazy grin that threatened to slide into mischief at any moment. His eyes were the kind you didn't forget, crystal, maybe green, maybe blue, perhaps both, and his confidence had an effortless, boyish charm. You could tell he was fun before he said a word. Dangerous in the way that made you want to stay.

I want to at least know I’d be leaving him with someone who would be able to take care f him which is ironic because I was supposed to be the stranger here. “She’s beautiful.” Rafe replies. I bite the inside of my cheeks as I swallow the last bit of pride that remains in me. “What . . . does she look like?” I murmur as I stare at my own reflection. “She has black hair.” I stare at my ginger ones. “She’s a model, so she’s tall and tans.” I stare at my freckled pale skin. “And she has the eyes of a siren.” Rafe adds which was the last twist of the knife as I stare at my green ones. It’s nothing special.

Rafe's response not only shocked Artemis but his beta too who smelled something fishy behind his words, " Why should I believe you? What security can you give me, Alpha Artemis? You can run away like a coward. I want something useful to use you anytime." Alpha Artemis appeared tense and looked behind his daughter in captivity.
