Cale listened. He didn't speak. He just watched Elion’s lips moving, absorbing the history of a man he used to be.
Outside, the rain started again.
"Rain," Cale whispered.
"Yeah. It's raining."
"Entry One," Cale said.
"What?"
"Entry One. In the book. It was raining."
Elion looked at the first page.
"Yes. It was."
"And an umbrella," Cale said.
"Yes."
Cale looked at the corner of the room. There was an old, black umbrella leaning against the wall—probably belonging to the ranger.
