"Let me read you a bedtime story." Knowing he might feel lonely in a new place, I picked up the storybook he'd brought. "Which story would you like tonight?" "The Magic Academy." Ian scooted over to make room for me. I lay down beside him and began reading. Tired from playing, his eyes started drooping halfway through. I softened my voice, and soon heard steady breathing beside me. I closed the book and started to get up. Ian rolled over and hugged my arm. I froze, afraid of waking him.

She could do everything without any of Eugene’s guidance. “I’m done, Daddy. Can you read me a bedtime story before I sleep?” She already knew that her mother would be back late tonight, so she did not ask about her whereabouts. “Sure. Which story would you like to hear?” Eugene carried her over to the bed and kept touching her forehead to test her temperature. It was still normal at the moment. “Anything is fine.” “How about ‘Little Red Riding Hood’?” “That sounds great!” Rue lay down on the bed beside him quietly and rested her head on his chest, listening to him as he read the story.

"I know you're awake, so get up." She groaned sleepily. "James, please, I fell asleep at three o'clock in the morning, so could you please shut up and let me sleep?" she asked, hugging the pillow beside her. "And it's not my fault you didn't go to bed early; we already talked about it, so don't give me that reason. Will you stand there, or will I drag you to the bathroom?" James threatened. She moaned once more. Damn, this jerk! Despite her love for him, there are times when she just wants to torture him. Does he not notice how sleepy I am?

It was a strangely domestic image I’d started dreaming up only recently. At some point, my exhaustion overwhelmed me, and I napped while the twins played with Zayne in his room. The day went by quickly, and soon, it was time for bed. After bathing the twins and putting them in pajamas, we lay in bed while I read them a bedtime story. Luca conked off almost immediately, but Matteo held on till the end of the story. “And so they lived happily ever after,” I said, closing the book. Matteo yawned and snuggled into my arm. “Did you find Aunty Nora?” he asked groggily.

After tucking her in and covering her with the comforter, Iliana spoke. "I want a bed-time story mother." "Your father will read one to you. Adam, please read our little dart a bed-time story." Brenda said as both Iliana and Brenda made puppy faces at Adam. "You know I can't refuse you both when you make such faces." Adam said as Brenda and Iliana started laughing. "Okay, okay, be quiet and let this father tell you both an amazing bed time story." "Yes father." "Once upon a time, in a faraway kingdom, there lived a beautiful princess."

His lips are still tilted in that wicked little smile. That night, Jabari and Amara refuse to close their eyes on the furs unless my voice tells them a bedtime tale. Even though I have spent five winters putting Zuberi and Tavon to sleep in our villa, I only know the basic old story about the three little forest pigs who built dens to hide from the big rogue wolf. The second I start whispering the words, I see the totally bored, blank stares on both of their little faces. They are way too smart for baby stories.

I was drained and desired a decent night's sleep. “Yeah. She said we needed to be good kids, and not disturb you any further, which was why we were obedient. Did we do well, mum?” River asked, grinning. “We were the best, right?” “Yeah. My best.” I patted his head, sitting next to him. “So, which bedtime story do you want? The princess and the pea? Or your favourite Toy Story?” They stayed silent for a long time, sharing glances before River murmured, “Just go to bed, Mum. You don't have to read any stories for us. We will sleep just fine without it.”

“Can you tell the story again?” Of course, she should have expected that Ramsey wouldn’t be satisfied with only hearing the story just once, but that’s all he’ll be getting from her tonight. “Little darling,” she yawned. “Mommy is tired. Mommy needs to go to bed just like you. It’s way past bedtime.” “Awww,” Ramsey sulked as he dropped down, finding Mr. Winslow again. “I promise, I’ll tell the story twice tomorrow if I tuck you in early.”

I said softly, stroking his head. He nodded and ran to his room. I followed behind him, just like I used to. Got his pajamas, helped him brush his teeth, wiped his little hands with a towel—our old nightly routine. “Mommy, read me a story,” he said, climbing into bed and pulling the blanket up to his chest. I smiled and picked one of his favorite storybooks from the shelf titled The Rabbit’s Adventure in the Mushroom Forest. I sat beside him, reading slowly, my voice almost a whisper. Noah looked at me with half-closed eyes, still fighting off sleep.

I smiled. “Just a short one.” So I told them a simple story about three little wolves exploring a magical forest. By the time I reached the end, both of them were already half asleep. I kissed each of them gently on the forehead. “Goodnight, my loves.” “Goodnight, Mom,” Rune murmured. Alora simply mumbled something before turning over under her blanket. Once they were asleep, I quietly left the room and closed the door behind me. The hallway outside felt quieter now.
