The guest receiving room smelled faintly of polished wood and old paper. When Alexander stepped inside, his posture was perfect, his smile polite—every inch the composed Alpha for onlookers. As if he wasn't the Alpha who ruined me.
"Scarlett," he greeted me smoothly, about to hug me when I moved away. "I missed you."
"What do you want?" I asked coldly.
His smile didn't falter until the last of the guards closed the door. Then his tone shifted, dropping low, sharp enough to slice through the pretense.
