"It's actually a book about grim reapers..." My heart wavers fearfully once I hear that name, but I try not to panic. "It's just a story, don't be scared," I assure myself as I gulp down nothing nervously.

All around them, boys and girls, dressed as monsters and super-heroes, began to titter and giggle, the tension from the story leaving their little bodies. Chloe wasn't afraid of the story; in fact, she had read it before, as well as many others. She didn't have many books at home, but one that she did have was a cheap paperback collection of scary stories that she read over and over again, becoming immune to their quaint shocks. “Alright, kids. I hope that wasn't too scary for you,” the teacher said. The class, as a single unit, assured her that it was not, in fact, too scary. However, several of the children's faces said otherwise.

After two days of high temperatures and intense boredom, he remembered the three books. Sam pulled out the one with the Mummy on the cover, because it looked the most innocuous. It was entitled the Ninth Pan Book of Horror Stories. He wasn’t the least bit prepared for what he found inside. The first three stories involved emasculation, murder and burning at the stake. In his fevered state Sam felt he was not only watching the characters’ suffering, he was experiencing it along with them. He flung the book at the wall and then hid it again, wishing he could burn it like Jinnot, the young girl in the third story who was burned alive.

Michael said, “Sakura told me we could play hide-and-seek, or we could tell scary stories.” Akira thought about it for a moment and then said, “You know what? How about we freshen up and change into our pajamas and then meet up in my room. Then we can tell each other scary stories. I know a lot of very scary Japanese ones.” Michael looked excited. “Really? Awesome.” Akira turned to Sakura and asked, “How about it?” Sakura nodded. “Sure, that sounds fun.” She turned to ask Mary and Katherine. “How about you two?”

She opened him up before everyone was about to get home and scared Zac that if he told this to anyone then she would lock him again. When I returned home, I looked for Zac all over the house but couldn't find him. “Have you seen Zac?” I asked Caroline “No.” She answered and continued using her phone. I went to my room and closed the door. I sat on my bed and heard something strange. Someone was weeping. I looked under my bed and I saw Zac hiding and weeping under my bed. “What happened Zac?” I hugged him after he came out. “She...She--” He couldn’t speak out of fear. I consoled him and gave him some water.
