I dropped to my knees beside her and wrapped my arms around her thick fur, pulling her toward me like I could shield her from whatever had finally dragged her under. My eyes roved over her entire length, my stomach twisting when I spotted a few cuts and gashes. “Ana, look at me. Come on—stay with me.” She groaned weakly. Her fur rippled. Shifted.
