He said. My nerves were fraying. “Gee, thanks.” Inside, the air was thick and dry, like a tomb. Dust coated everything, the bookshelves, the tables, the cracked floor tiles. I tried to ignore the swirl of emotions rising from my stomach like bile. It felt like deja vu, only that a lot of things were different this time. “The secret room should be behind that shelf,” I said, pointing to a wall of crimson books. Luca moved ahead, pulling one of the books out. “Do I pull books out to move it or what?”

Like she might speak. Dominic turned his head slow. Their eyes met. And whatever courage she had evaporated like holy water in a furnace. She followed Elena in silence. Her breath shallow. Her heart screaming. Her thighs trembling already from a fear her cunt didn’t understand. ~~ ~~The South Chamber~~ The room was red. Not pink. Not wine. Not burgundy. Red like the mouth of a wolf. Red like fresh cunt after the first time it tears. Red like the sheets used the night Dominic first made Isadora cry so hard she passed out.

The Caldwell family had three sitting rooms. And right now, none of them felt safe. I sat stiffly in the center of the smallest one—“the red room,” they called it, because of the floor-to-ceiling velvet curtains. Dean stood near the window, still, silent and arms folded across his chest. Mason was slouched in one of the armchairs, pretending to scroll through his phone, but his knee bounced constantly. Nervous energy leaked from him in every direction.

On the top floor, they saw the hallway leading down and at the end, there was an open room. The room was filled with candles, and there was also a cage that had a python in it, not even to mention the other very weird-looking bottles and, in some, you could just think what it was or should have been. Standing in the middle of the room at a table was Cindy. Her hands were covered with blood and she was screaming and waving her hands around. “NO…NO… I did everything to the tee and still, it did not work”. Again she looked at something on the table that looked like a very old book. She threw the book across the floor. It lands in a heep of dust and then, like magic, it disappears.

On the other side rest big machinery all of which have red stains on them. Thick black doors makes up the right side of the wall that continue down the hallway all made from a type of metal that makes it impossible for anyone to break in or out of it. The stench of blood, grime, and urine hang in the hair and I take a big gulp, trying to swallow the bile that is coming up. Adair is well in front of us, walking dauntlessly without even taking a second glance at any of the red stains on the walls. Nick’s mouth is set in a tight line and he continues to glance at me behind his shoulder to make sure I’m okay.

He snarled at me before pushing to the front of my head, giving me no other option but to remain quiet. When we opened our eyes, our vision glowed red, almost bloody and dark. Slowly, we got accustomed to the lighting. The room didn't have much light anyway. Some of the books came to life in colors, the hues floating over some scrolls and parchments. Indeed, it wasn't an ordinary library or study as Vlad made it seem. A stench caught our nose. Pungent and thick, compelling and powerful with energy to knock me down if I was a mere mortal.

LEILA . . I hesitate, my hand hovering over the doorknob. Taking a deep breath that doesn’t quite calm the flutter in my chest, I twist it. The click seems so loud in the quiet place, as I pull further, walking in slowly, counting my steps. My breathe hitches as my eyes widens trying to adjust to everything in sight. Or maybe not because I can’t quite see anything here, except where I’m standing. The room is drenched in red, the first thing I notice of it, the red coating everything like the one I had seen in movies, the red room, I could tell the danger of it.

. . . Author’s POV The red room was a world of shadows and secrets, its crimson walls absorbing the dim light. Serene was laid on the silk-sheeted bed, her wrists bound above her head by cold metal handcuffs that bit into her skin with every tug. A black satin blindfold covered her eyes, plunging her into darkness and amplifying her fear of what was to come. Her chest heaved, each breath a shaky gasp, her heart pounding so fiercely she thought it might burst. The air felt heavy, charged with anticipation, and she sensed Nicholas’s presence before she heard him—a silent predator watching her from the foot of the bed.

He could only take a few steps here and there because it was filled with books. The library was dimly lit by the few rays of sunshine coming through a half open window and it was the only window in the room. There were shelves made of red wood filled tight with books. There were also books stacked on the floor. Everything was dusty and the placed smelled damp. As if it hadn't had a whiff of fresh air in years. Prince Ron wondered how the books didn't rot in such a place.
