Adam's POV My eyes remained on Eli as he hurried out of the room. His steps were quicker than usual and his body seemed too stiff. What just happened? Did anyone say something offensive? I replayed the last three minutes in my head but couldn't find anything. “That’s rude.” Jay said looking behind until Eli was out of sight. “He’s so awkward and quirky.” Tim added. “Running away like a pussy.” Someone else said and they all laughed. I let out a little chuckle. I wasn't comfortable with them making comments about it or making him a joke.

“My God, I don't think I've played that game since college, and frankly I'd like to keep it that way because some memories should remain buried.” “Perfect,” Maddie declared, pointing at him as though he'd accidentally strengthened her argument. “The greatest tragedy of adulthood is that everyone eventually convinces themselves they've become mature, emotionally evolved, and far too sophisticated for bad decisions, when in reality most people desperately need to do something stupid every once in a while for the sake of their mental health.”

At least then I could make some money. My stomach sunk lower when I saw the entire meal was destroyed. During his angry spell, Rick threw the food on the floor. The chicken was covered in dirt. As if he took his precious time stepping on each piece. The rice was scattered around. I sighed. It was the only thing I could do. Refusing to shed one more tear tonight. Gathering my strength, I reached for the broom and commenced cleaning the mess. By the time it was midnight I was back in my room with a growling tummy. I lay there revisiting the idea of breaking a few laws to put some money in my pockets. It was on nights like this that I felt the need for cash more than any.

Adam’s butt chick had definitely cracked with the way he had hit them on the floor, if it had not even cracked the first time when Remy had interrupted us and I had pushed him to the floor, it had definitely done that at the moment. Even though I hadn't been paying full attention, a few rules had managed to stick. "In case you forgot, dating a teacher is strictly prohibited, handsome." I turned back around to face them. They were frantically trying to fix their clothes. The guy froze mid-buttoning when he realized I hadn't left yet. He turned toward me, his wide eyes locking onto mine as he took me in. I cleared my throat. "But hey, whatever. Rules are meant to be broken." He looked away and resumed buttoning his shirt. I let out a sharp sigh. "Next time, be more careful. Not everyone is as nice as I am," I deadpanned.
