" I roared, slamming the phone onto the ground. Jessica’s departure had left me utterly drained, yet these people continued to suck the life out of me like leeches, greedily feeding off my blood. I closed my eyes and buried my head in my hands, overcome by despair.

He slammed the locker shut hard enough to startle nearby teammates. “You okay, Cap?” Derek asked carefully this time. “I'm fine.” He wasn’t, not even close. Later that night, Noa stepped out of the convenience store near campus with instant noodles and cheap coffee inside a small paper bag. Cold wind brushed against his face. His body felt unbearably tired. Still, before heading home, he pulled out his phone again like an idiot. His thumb hovered over Diamond’s contact. Then, finally, he typed. “Diamond, you disappeared. Did you forget our promise?”

Surprised by the loud noise, Hazel woke up and stared at me, and then at the floor where the broken pieces laid. "Ah..sorry about that..." I bent down nervously to pick up the broken pieces, half-expecting her to yell at me. "It's fine. It was just a gift anyway." She shrugged, rubbing her eyes. "Oh, alright." I looked up at her. "I just wanted to ask whether you'd be coming with me to the hospital or not." "Of course. Just give me a minute." She smiled. I helped her onto the wheelchair and she made her way to her room.
