I hissed too late. Pain radiated up my ribcage. The air had been knocked from my lungs, and it took me a second too long to recover. The two Hunters were upon us within seconds, their eyes lit with feral glee as they spotted me sprawled out on the ground. The doe scrambled to stand, but she was all limbs and in her panic she was slowing me down. Her nails alone were leaving red streaks down my arms. If she drew blood nothing on the face of this earth would keep the other Hunter’s from finding me.

We arrived back at the large mansion with a few more boxes of silver bullets and the weapon I was to wear. Rem had decided it was a good idea to equip himself with a Hunter’s gun, one that would be much quieter to shoot than any normal gun. He hoped he wouldn’t need to use it or the silver bullets, but he erred on the side of caution.

His eyes shone crimson in the dim light. “I was wondering when the tribe would remember its own history.” I was now on my guard, “Who are you?” He smirked, “You may call me what your ancestors did.” Then, he finally stepped fully into the glow. “The Remnant.” Jessica and I were ready for a battle, but he only said, “Beware! If Sheila regains her memories, she will have to be sacrificed to restart the seal!”

The memory faded. Back to the present. Riley showed up while I was fixing Jordan's collar. She stormed straight in, her heels clicking sharp and grating against the floor. She'd ditched the glasses by now, shed all that small-town plainness—dressed to kill, every detail polished. But as a photographer, I could see the exhaustion caked under all that heavy foundation. I shifted my weight onto my other foot and grinned. I might not have stopped him, but the Thornblood dipped bullets had punctured him, binding shade and host to the same satisfying fate. I fired one last time, hitting him strait between his soulless eyes.

~Valeria~ The battle kicked off and Alerion's sword went straight through some remnant's chest, blood spraying everywhere, but then another one came out of nowhere with a wolfsbane dagger and sliced his arm. Black veins started spreading from the cut immediately, crawling up his arm like evil spider webs. "ALERION!" I screamed, already moving toward him without thinking. Wolfsbane. That's wolfsbane.
