Amy moved to silence the monitors, and Dr. Carrington adjusted the tubing. Pullox’s ventilator settings were gradually reduced, the tubing disconnected as they moved to a manual resuscitator in case he couldn’t compensate.
For several breathless seconds, we waited. The rise and fall of his tiny chest was there, but it was shallow.
Doc watched closely, then finally gave a soft sigh. "He’s strong, but not strong enough yet."
