The memory of her baby's innocent face, cold and lifeless in her arms, gave her strength she had never known before. As she stood there, a lone figure against the backdrop of the moon, Aline's vow of revenge echoed through the clearing. He met the beast head-on, his large hands reaching out to grab the iron plates on its shoulders. The impact drove his boots three inches into the frozen dirt, but he held his ground. With a grunt of pure, savage strength, he twisted his shoulders, using the beast’s own momentum to hurl it sideways into the rock face. The iron armor cracked against the stone, the hound letting out a sickening crunch as its ribs shattered.

I walked up to him, and bent. He sat, leaning to the chair behind him, drenched in blood. He caught his breath and looked at me with a smile on his face.
