They saw a town girl who had brought a hornets' nest right to their front door.
Around noon, a soft knock sounded on the bedroom door. I walked over and turned the lock slowly, finding Riley standing on the other side with a small tray of food in her hands. She gave me a sad, sympathetic smile as she stepped into the room, setting the tray down on the wooden nightstand.
"You need to eat something, Tessa," she said gently, sitting down on the edge of the mattress and patting the space beside her. "I know everything feels completely terrifying right now, but starving your body isn't going to fix the trouble outside."
