Amberleigh sat on a stool at the counter and chatted with Leo as he cooked up her lunch. And it smelled fucking amazing. He didn’t use premade dough, no he made it from scratch, and even hand tossed that shit. She clapped and was tempted to throw tips at him. We make our way into the diner and I immediately sight Liam in a booth at the end of the aisle, he looks up and when I see the look on his face when he spots Chef next to me, Chef moves to take a seat by the counter and I make my way to the booth. I sit down opposite Liam and he doesn't look happy. “I thought we agreed to have breakfast together?” He asks. “We are having breakfast together.” I tell him. “I meant alone, who is he?” He asks as he glares at Chef and Chef glares right back at him. “We are alone, and he is a precaution, he isn't going to bother us unless you try to do something stupid.” I tell him. “You don't trust me Kylie?” He asks and he has the audacity to look offended.

Then, he doesn’t waste any of his time to serve me. He said that his personal chef, aside from Nana Lydia, just came out before we went here, making sure that all the foods were freshly cooked and baked. There was a bottle of champagne, lobster bisque, beef burgundy, lasagna, and baked scallops. There was this one food called Coq au vin, where I couldn’t even pronounce the name at first. It was a French dish of chicken braised with wine, mushrooms, and bacon, with onions and garlic. That was when I learned that Liam had French blood, after dating him for five months.

I bite my lip not to laugh and am relieved once more when my father concedes this time and Liam pushes in my chair. As dinner progresses, we have nice Rioja wine, and Spanish tapas-style food in different courses, the atmosphere loosens up. “I know you’re an excellent and honest foreman, Joseph,” Liam says after my father spends some time describing his job. “Oh?” my dad responds. “Yes. The private investigator we hired looked into you among other things and received nothing but glowing reports. If I ever make any moves toward Chicago, I’m hiring you. And I’m not just blowing smoke up your ass,” Liam says truthfully.
