A Father’s Farewell Denied
“Later, I comforted Artie, telling him it would be better once school started. I told him he’d make lots of new friends there.
“But he never got to see that day…”
I looked up straight at Logan. The bottomless hatred inside me could only spill forth as endless tears.
“Do you know what our son said after we finished enrolling him in school?”
Logan looked at me, eyes filled with remorse and anxiety.
“He said, ‘Mom, once I start school, I’ll study hard and serve the country just like Dad does.”
Logan clutched his head in both hands, his face contorted with anguish, as tears finally spilled freely down his cheeks.
