Chapter 1 Aurora’s POV “This is ridiculous,” I snapped the second the tall bastard stepped into my penthouse living room. I crossed my arms tight under my breasts, pushing them up on purpose just to see if he’d look, but the coward didn’t. His eyes stayed locked on my face as if I was just some annoying package he had to deliver. That pissed me off more than anything. Ronan stood there in a black shirt, sleeves rolled up to show his forearms covered in veins and old scars. Ex-special forces, they said.

A low, dry laugh drifts in from the doorway, and every head in the room turns toward it. Ronan leans against the frame with one shoulder, sandy hair pushed back from his forehead in the careless way that takes him ten minutes in front of a mirror to fake, a heavy silver lighter turning end over end between two fingers. The burn scar along his forearm shows pale against the rolled cuff of his sleeve, the same scar he's had since the night five years ago when he tried to stop a ritual he had no power to stop. "The big bad Vane brothers, out maneuvered by a human lawyer." He says it light, easy, the practiced tone he's used on every hard conversation in this family since he learned to talk.

The blue light from the screen painted his chiseled face in sharp, ghostly angles as we both stared at the live feed. On the screen, my father didn't look like the broken, trembling old man who had watched his empire burn in the valley. Alpha Ronan stood tall in the freezing rain at the northern border, his heavy wool coat buttoned to his chin, his posture perfectly straight. Behind him, the headlights of fifty armored transport vehicles pierced the dark woods like the eyes of a massive, waiting beast.

Elowen’s POV The cool, marble steps outside the training hall seemed to hum with residual tension, the very air thick with the aftershocks of violence. My feet, guided by an instinct I didn't fully understand, led me to him. I found Ranon crouched low, his powerful frame hunched, knuckles split and bleeding, bright crimson droplets staining the pristine white stone beneath him. His academy shirt, usually immaculate, was torn across the shoulder, revealing angry, bruised skin marred by fresh, cruel-looking claw marks. One of his intensely golden eyes was already swelling shut, a testament to the brutality of the exchange.

One moment, a warrior would be sharpening his blade; the next, black veins would spiderweb across his throat, and his eyes would wash over with a milky, violet film. "They aren't dying," Kael shouted, pinning a thrall against the stone wall. It was a young guard he had trained since boyhood, but the boy was no longer there. The thrall snarled, snapping its teeth with bone-breaking force, its strength doubled by the supernatural rot. "Ronan, they’re still breathing, but there’s nothing left inside!" Ronan stood in the center of the courtyard, his wolf prowling at the edges of his consciousness. He looked at the dozen thralls already restrained by the Winter-Fang guards. These were his people—

“Let me come in. It's for your good…” I didn't wait for him to say more than that, nor did I give him a reply. I placed my hands on the doorknob with a speed that wasn't from this world, rolled it, and opened the door widely. “Enter, enter…” I said, shutting the door back immediately. It was Ronan. “These rogues are already seven times stronger than they were before…” Ronan explained, shaking his head in surprise. “How on earth would Alpha Thane be part of them?”

But before I could move, another voice cut through the air. “Enough.” The word was sharp, commanding. Both the guards froze at once. Ronan Grey Thorn. He is the proxy Alpha right now… Stepbrother of Alpha King Alexander. Roana walked toward us. He is tall and charismatic with short brown hair and a dangerous aura. Each step he took was heavy and sure; he seemed the kind of man who bent others to his will. The guards dropped their heads and moved aside as he stopped near us. “Let her through,” he ordered. They obeyed instantly.

I looked at Ronan, my power sending him flying hard into a wall. I felt like I was being taken over by something or someone else, my voice was an eerie tone spitting, “Why do you want to know where they are, so you can kill us again?” his eyes were wide in fear, "you mess with something you do not know." the eerie voiced finished. Shock was clear on Anders and Thanes' faces as they looked from me to Ronan, who was now unconscious on the floor in a pile of rubble. A hole had been punched through the cell wall. Nolan dropped the brother's restraints and went to help Ronan.
