At some point I must have dozed off when I’m startled awake, Myra is standing over me with a glass in hand and others come running as I scream from the surprise of having the contents of the water poured onto me. Breaking the Surface The sea creatures screamed in silence. Ronan felt their terror ripple through the currents like knives. Schools of fish darted and spun with no direction, their bodies colliding in blind panic. Larger predators lashed at shadows, their instincts unraveling, unable to read the ancient maps etched into tide and current. Even the smallest creatures—sprats, krill, the hidden plankton that lit the dark with secret luminescence—twitched and dimmed, their pulses erratic, confused.

I pressed harder. The cliff loomed ahead, jagged, merciless, the ocean below roaring like it was calling for me. Its waves smashed against the rocks with a violence that mirrored the storm inside me, each crash echoing the beat of my racing heart. My tears blurred it all into a painting of chaos, red from the dying sun, black from the shadows creeping over the land, white from the foam that exploded upward like the sea itself was screaming.

Jostled by a violent rocking from the ship’s hull, it provoked horrified yells from the crew. Sails flailing in the wind, they flapped in a futile effort to follow its pull as the tides around them began to spiral menacingly. Their grey frothy waters growing unsettled, bubbles scattered over its surface, before an enormous tentacle arouse slowly from amongst them. Its slippery rust colored skin arching overhead, nearly everyone on deck gasped as it stretched well beyond the highest mast.

The moment both feet submerge, something surges through me. It isn't pain that I feel, but a raw, humming energy. A clean, rushing force climbs up my legs, into my spine, exploding softly behind my ribs. My fingers twitch as if lightning has threaded itself through my veins. The water begins to tremble. At first, it’s subtle—ripples brushing against my thighs. Then it grows violent. The entire tub rumbles beneath us, stone vibrating, water crashing against its edges. Gasps erupt around the cavern. I lift my head toward Damon.

Suddenly I hear her mutter words, “Here and now, I evoke the elemental force of Water, the fluid of infinite shapes and forms, flowing source of adaptability, emotion and life. I seek the pure spring within.” When she began to say those words, the sound of the waters started growing a little bit angrier now than earlier. She continues with a much louder voice, “I call you forth to wash away all that needlessly binds and to move fluidly in this world.” The sounds of the waves begins to frighten me as it seemingly got a little monstrous which had me visions of enormous waves crashing onto huge sharp rocks. Indescribably, I can see myself standing on a cliff and looking over the monstrous waves

My rage. My fear of being left behind. The wind responded to my scream, spinning faster, pulling the water into a fierce spiral. From the churning storm I created a whirlpool that surged outward, the current twisting with brutal force. Cancer stumbled sideways, its balance slipping as the waves crashed against its shell. My localized hurricane grew, lashing the surface and drawing the moonlight into the vortex. The water glowed white-blue, reflecting my fury. The wind howled like it carried all the things I had never said aloud.

Somewhere in the North Seas twenty-two years ago Lights flickered across the sky, piercing through the darkness. Loud rumbling echoed afterward. The sky finally opened up with tears of anger, pelting everything below. My muscles ached, even my tail threatened to stop working. None of that mattered as I fought the monster that tried to drown us under its petrifying waves. It got angrier with each passing minute. The roar grew louder with the wail of the baby, slapping me under. Again. Bubbles surrounded me. My vision grew foggy. I had no choice but to let go of the basket I held.

Rock. Selah lunged off the bottom, breaking into the air with a ragged cough. She spat out the bitter water, her body trembling with exhaustion. The next wave caught us, a forceful shove that threw us forward. We tumbled through the surf, our skin scraping against the jagged floor until the water receded. I reached deep into the void of my mind, grabbing every scrap of will I had left. I forced my lifeless limbs to move. We dragged our heavy, wet bodies out of the reach of the tide.

Sarah, with her gentle touch and soothing words, calmed the raging fire until it danced in harmony with the surrounding trees, providing a source of light and comfort. In the trial of water, the pack had to navigate treacherous rapids and quench the thirst of a parched land. Rachel, with her keen instincts and steady guidance, led the pack through the rushing currents, distributing water to dry soil, reviving wilted plants, and restoring life's vital flow.
