I dove into chapter 1 which from my understanding was about some trials that resulted in the deaths of 200 women in a place called Salem, I brief memory of learning about this in school sprang to mind.

They all had powers but all of them worked differently. There was earth witches, Water witches, Wind witches and fire witches. They all lived happily and everyone kept to their own and everyone was happy. Well at least for some time they were happy. From what the books told me, it was was that there was a time when some witches practiced dark magic which sometimes involved the sacrificing of young children. Some of the witches did not agree to this.

Her daughter knew everything and she had the gift to. I couldn't believe what they had been through, killed because of a gift they were born with. I knew of the Salem trials, we had read about them when I was in school. And I knew how any woman with a brain who spoke her spoke her truth was killed off as a witch. Then there were those who actually were witches and knew how to use magic but I didn't that back then. But this was Jasper's history, his legacy, his ancestors and they had almost all of them met a gruesome end.
