Water dripped down from giant palm leaves onto the stone path with small clicking sounds. I walked fast, my leather shoes making no noise on the damp ground. I passed long lines of tall bamboo, ignoring the heavy air sticking to my shirt. My eyes searched every path, every shadow, every quiet corner. I turned past a stone waterfall wall, the sound of rushing water covering my steps. And then I stopped dead in my tracks. There, under the hanging flowers near the stone fountain, stood Samantha. And right next to her was a man. He wore a gray jacket and a dark baseball cap pulled low over his face.

“You’ll serve as a maid in your new pack. At least you won’t starve there.” And with that, he signaled the driver to leave. As the carriage rolled away, I cried silently, staring back at the home I’d never see again. “Where are we going?” I asked the driver after hours of silence. “To Wolvehowl Pack,” he replied softly. My heart sank. I’d heard stories about Wolvehowl and its Alpha—a cruel, merciless man who ruled with an iron fist. I was being delivered straight to a monster. When we finally arrived, the driver tapped my shoulder gently. “Miss, we’re here,” he said.

Sam POV Just one more click and the cell will be open. I feel sweat on my brow as I fight the urge to be with Lana. She continues tempting me, “Come on sweet Sam, just one more click,” she says. I have a sense that moving forward will somehow help her. I bend over feeling pain go through my body. I am fighting what feels natural.
