I teased, trying to lighten the mood. Sarah gave me a look I couldn't quite decipher before responding, "Do you want to eat or not?" I hesitated for a moment before asking, "What's on the menu?" Sarah's reply was enticing: "Pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, salad, apple slices, and a hot cup of coffee."

From her fading back, I looked at the food again and my mouth watered at the sight. I did not hesitate to eat and fill myself.

Their skin felt so soft and warm against my lips, and I held onto the feeling for an extra moment. Our head maid, Sarah, served us breakfast: scrambled eggs with cheese, crispy bacon, fresh fruit, and orange juice. It was Lucas's favorite meal, and I wondered if he had requested it or if Sarah had just known to make something special. "Are you nervous about today, Lucas?" I asked gently as we ate. Lucas shrugged, trying to look brave. "A little bit. But I keep thinking about Phil, and how scared he must be. I want to help him, Mom."

He made way inside the house only after the phone call. The smell of pancakes hit right his nose when he closed the front door and walked inside. Suddenly he remembered reading somewhere that said There is something about pancakes that suggests that the day is going to be great, especially if you are sharing them with your family. Lucas could barely have digested that the first thing he saw this morning is Haven’s face and now sharing pancakes with her, the day was bound to be more than great for him. Haven looked up at him and said, “Pancakes and maple syrup. I hope that is ok with you for breakfast.”
