We ate the same gruel every morning, and depending on how many children were around, it would be further diluted with water accordingly.
I had gotten so used to feeling hungry that I didn’t know what it was like to be full. We’d only ever eat the rotten, mushy fruit that was left behind.
Everything here was fresh.
Lucan filled my ears with tales of monsters and stories he knew, and I found them very pleasant. All in all, I was having a good morning, and I hoped with all my heart that things would continue this way.
