My mouth knows what to say even if my brain is somewhere else.
Then Savannah shifts. I feel it immediately, like the way water changes temperature without warning. She leans forward, eyes narrowing just slightly but she’s still smiling, but sharper now.
“So,” she says lightly, “things have been… turbulent for you lately.”
There it is. I brace myself.
“I mean,” she continues, “paparazzi photos, rumors about canceled rehearsals, a few, ah… intense nights out?”
A beat.
I keep smiling. “The media exaggerates.”
