Zara said softly before letting Nora push forward. Nora’s body cracked and shifted back into human form. She stood up in the grass, sharp little pieces of tigs digging into her feet. She slipped back on her clothing that she snuck out with. She took a deep breath and shook her arms, trying to shake away the nervousness coursing through her. She took a step out onto the tar and her stomach sank. She reminded herself what she needed to do and what she was trying to prevent as she made her way towards the city.

Within fifteen minutes he had three friends and a building project. Nora stood in the doorway for a moment and looked at the room with the focused attention she gave to everything, cataloguing it. Then she walked to the bookshelf, selected a book, found a chair, and sat down with the air of someone who had always been there and expected everyone else to catch up. The teacher told me at pickup that Nora had read the entire book before circle time and had then very helpfully corrected the class calendar, which had July listed as the wrong number of days.

It had shaken her. Before I could push further, Nora turned around, her face bright. "Can we go to the bookstore when Mommy is better?" Sarah immediately latched onto the change of subject. "Maybe," she said, ruffling Nora’s hair. Nora’s excitement drowned out the tension, but I wasn’t fooled. Something was wrong. And I was going to find out what. * I pulled my phone out of my pocket as it vibrated against my thigh. Neville’s name flashed across the screen.

I tucked my slate into its carrying satchel and went to find Nora. What was I going to tell her? Would she be happy for me? Of course she would. She was my friend. She helped me even after that whole mess with Prince Gideon and the drugged wine. I found Nora reading in her room. For once it wasn’t an etiquette manual. I winced when I realized I was interrupting one of her few free moments. “Oh, Clara, there you are!” Nora tossed the book aside and jumped to her feet. I waved, and signed that we needed to talk.

****************************Mack’s POV********************* The morning sun filtered through the massive windows of the conference room, but it didn’t warm me. Nothing did lately—not coffee, not victory, not even Claire’s hand resting on mine. Nora had been rescued. She was recovering slowly under full protection. That should’ve felt like a win. But I’d seen her face. Pale, eyes distant, lips trembling when she whispered about the walls, the sound of footsteps that never belonged to anyone. Whatever Liam did to her… it had shredded something permanent.

she said, and before I could argue, she was gone. I sighed, grabbed the envelope, and made my way upstairs. Nora was on her bed, curled up with a book in her hands, her hair falling over one side of her face. She didn’t even look up when I entered. The lamp beside her glowed softly, casting warm light over her skin. For a moment, I just stood there, watching her lips move slightly as she read. She looked… peaceful. Something I hadn’t seen in a long time. “Here,” I said finally, holding out the envelope.

Vael Nora read the sentence twice. Then she turned to the remaining three pages. which were dense with text formal She read all of it. Demi waited about forty-five seconds before she broke. "Nora." "Hold on." "Your face is doing something." "I'm reading." "You've gone very still." "That's what reading looks like." Nora reached the bottom of the final page. went back to the top of the second Then she set the pages down on her desk and stood with her hands flat against the surface and looked at the wall for a moment.

Sarah said, her eyes scanning the courtyard as she watched Mallory get to the burning pile of wood. Nora could tell her daughter wasn't there anymore. The hate in her eyes. She knew what it was like, how it could eat away at you. It was so hard not to give. If her pull to Jace wasn’t so strong she would have gone down the same path. She looked up at the sky night had fallen and the dark over casted predicted their pending doom. The moonlight shimmered down and Nora found herself begging for help. She prayed, pleaded, and begged for the moon goddess help. Mallory sat there watching the flames creep higher up the wood pile.

She turned to face Rasmore, blood boiling in her veins. She raised her soft palms to try to stop the crying, helpless echoes of her kids from ringing into her eardrums, but she couldn't. In fact, she saw them, daggling between Rasmore's hands, crying for her. She had done everything she could to save them from that cruelty, but her pleas went in vain. It was like Rasmore could read her thoughts, because the moment their eyes met, he looked away shyly, embarrassed, and humiliated. It's like the same memories were replaying in his mind.

Nora I stared at my cell phone screen, completely gobsmacked. The text I had gotten from the anonymous sender was unbelievable. How could they expect me to do this? Just How? "You are to make Alpha Klaus fall in love with you and reject his betrothed, Claudia. Remember the drill: you either do this or one of your two remaining children dies." Dread curled up in the pit of my stomach, and I suddenly felt the urge to go and empty my intestines. This was absurd. How the hell was I even supposed to do this? Was this some kind of a silly joke?
