There was something about her ,something that demanded my attention. For a brief moment, I forgot about everything, the chaos of my life, the sadness lingering in my frozen piece of muscles in my chest . Everything. Nora P.O.V Crawling through the narrow AC ducts was far from glamorous. My arms and knees ached as I maneuvered through the tight space, each movement sending a fine layer of dust into the air. Sweat dripped down my temple, dampening the fabric of my black, full-body suit.

“Bye, Jayden.” Later that evening, as we walked down the beach under the fading sun, I asked, “Did it bother you? Seeing him?” Richard shrugged. “I’m not threatened by something I’ve already won.” Another day, we stopped by a small bookstore café. I was reaching for a novel when I heard a voice say, “That one’s really good.” I turned. Nora. She looked effortlessly beautiful, as always — tailored pants, soft curls, perfect lipstick. “Thanks,” I replied, placing the book back.

But she knew it wasn't going to happen. Sighing Nora opened the book she had half read. She mostly read love and romance books.Suddenly she remembered the time she used to watch movies with her siblings. Cuddling with them , fighting with them, crying and laughing with them. She missed those days. She missed them. She missed her home. Eleonora came out of her thoughts when she heard some noises from the front door. She knew it was her husband so she quickly put her book aside and stood up.

Nora was leaning on a chair while holding a glass of champagne in her hand. Nora raised the glass gesturing to Kathleen a silent congratulation. She smirked at her wickedly having her mind thinking that because of Kathleen's dumb decision to be Aaron's girlfriend, she was able to find a way to steal Aeroxx's microchip project. 'It was all thanks to Kathleen who made it all possible,' Nora murmured internally with satisfaction.

I cut her off. "What!" "Don't what me, did you honestly think I wouldn't find out? All those sleeping pills you hid in your closet, the nightmares when you came back home for the holidays. And lastly, a book that came out of nowhere. I knew from the first moment I read that book, that it wasn't fictional. I didn't want to tell you that I knew, I have been waiting for you to tell me."Nora says, tears streaming down her cheekbones. I close the gap between us and wrap my arms around her.

"They really treat you that badly?" "Worse," Nora muttered, looking down at her hands. But she quickly shook her head, forcing the sad look away. "Anyway, I am not going to ruin a good day by complaining about the Alphas. Besides languages, what else do you do for fun?" "I read," Clara answered, gesturing toward the massive shelves lining the walls. "A lot. Mostly dark romance and mafia thrillers. Anything with a ton of drama and people making terrible decisions." "Shut up," Nora laughed loudly, clapping her hands together. "Are you serious? That is literally my favorite genre! I write short stories sometimes, and they are always packed with completely unhinged mafia bosses and crazy plot tw

Nora’s POV Rain hammered softly against my windows while I sat alone inside my chambers attempting to read one of the books Elena had brought earlier. The words blurred together uselessly because my thoughts kept drifting elsewhere. To Rafael again. I couldn't get that man out of my head. Without knowing it, I had started thinking about him more than I would like to admit, he was taking over my every thoughts. I groaned softly under my breath before shutting the book completely. This needed to stop. I was supposed to be gathering information. Instead, lately I spent more time noticing the way Rafael looked at me whenever he thought I wasn’t paying attention.

"You have not brought a woman home since Isabella died." The mention of her name made my jaw tighten. "Nora is different." "How?" Clara asked. "Who is she? Where did she come from?" "She is payment for a debt." I kept my voice steady. "Landon signed her over to me." Adrian raised his eyebrows. "Darius's son? The hospital empire family?" "Yes." "And you accepted her?" Clara's tone was skeptical. "Why would you want another person's burden?" Because she looks exactly like Isabella. Because seeing her face made my dead heart beat again. Because I could not let her go.

I pressed my lips together and looked at the floor. "Nova Calloway," he said again. "Her routine. Where she spends time alone in the compound." I thought about Nova's reading room. The cream walls and the floor to ceiling bookshelves and the way the afternoon light came through the white curtains and she sat in it with her notebook writing things that made her smile to herself. Aurora crawling across the rug toward her. "I don't know," I whispered. He hit me again. My head snapped sideways and I tasted copper and the chair scraped against the concrete and I hung there in the zip ties for a moment that lasted a long time.

' thought Nora as she headed straight for the waiting room. Nora's flight was in an hour. Nora had turned off her mobile phone and chose to read a novel by her favourite author. The novel told the story of the adventures of three people in various parallel worlds. This work was the second part of the previous work. Just by reading the novel, she felt like she was in another world and forgot for a moment what was happening to her at the moment. She seemed to be immersed in her own world of reading. Meanwhile, at the Torrence family mansion, Vivian, Adam's mother, was engrossed in reading a magazine in the living room. There was tea and freshly baked cookies on the table.
