Shex and Mera were outside and around the corner so they saw Lex and Kar leave together. They turned and smiled at each other, knowing that they would be alright. But they still needed to get to the Hall of Records so that they could research Lex’s dreams to find a connection between them and her energy drain. They talked amongst themselves and decided that they also needed to figure out if Kar was having dreams as well and if he was, why they weren’t draining his energy.

He crumpled to his knees, clutching his chest as he fell down to the ground, tears welling in his eyes, and blood spilling much like mine had moments before.

The scout swallowed. “The eastern infirmary.” Rex nodded. “Is he injured?” The scout hesitated. That hesitation sent a chill through me. “Not exactly.” Nobody liked that answer. “Define not exactly,” Ash said. The scout looked uncomfortable. “Physically, he’s fine.” “Then what’s wrong with him?” The young wolf glanced toward me.
