“I think I’m done, Sera said. “I’ll leave you something for the bruises, but you’re stuck with the over-the-counter stuff for painkillers. Downside of not using a real doctor.”
Cat flinched.
“Is there anyone we can call for you?” I asked.
“No,” she said quickly, her eyes suddenly wide. “Don’t call anyone. Everyone I’ve ever known is dead, and no one who knows me calls me Cat.”
The door swung open, and Lauren leaned in. Cat sprang over the bed, completely silent, and raced for the window. We kept it locked as a precaution, but she yanked and scratched at it wildly.
