The Alpha’s Shadow Luna
I watched the shadows drag her partially out of the stolen flesh, a screaming shape of smoke suspended between worlds, and Darien’s claws closed around her.
Eyera screamed. The sound bent the air, inhuman, a frequency that made the flames shudder. The scream rose and rose as the shadows constricted, crushing, compressing, until the writhing darkness collapsed in on itself like a dying star.
Then, silence. Even the fire seemed to hold its breath.
Mary’s body crumpled to the floor, empty in a way it had never been empty before, and dissolved. Not burning. Dissolving, breaking apart into ash and drifting upward into the smoke, the last physical remnant of my sister finally, truly gone.
