Vince asks as Lester gives him a cheeky grin. “Something my assistant is going to help me with” Lester smiles. “This is top secret; you can’t even tell Tiffany what we are about to do” he adds, opening the envelope and pulling out the piece of paper inside to reveal its contents. Vince’s eyes grow wide when he reads what was on the paper. “What do you need me to do?” he asks, smiling he gets to help Lester with revealing the sex of the baby.

I wasn’t sure how to react. “Hey, Can I talk to you?” I nodded, stepping a little closer. His head hung the lowest I had ever seen. He seemed to be disconnected, not making any eye contact. “Sure, what about?” I asked. He glanced around. “Not here,” he answered, “meet me on the track field. I’ll text you the time.” And with that said, he walked away. It felt like this meeting was supposed to be a secret and boy was I tired of secrets.

"It's only for a year, kept secret from everyone we know. It's a desperate measure, born out of necessity." Her brow furrowed and eyes were filled with concern. "But why, Sapph? I don't understand. What could possibly drive you to such lengths?"

“Everything is on there. Secondary accounts, seventh node intelligence, and my full archive on Marre’s internal operations.” Lucien does not touch it yet. Reves continues. “There is something else,” he says. “Something you need context for.” Lucien’s eyes narrow slightly. “What is it?” Reves looks at me directly. “Marre contacted me three years before your engagement arrangement,” he says. The air tightens. “He approached my family under the framing of a strategic alliance,” Reves continues. “He claimed you were aware of the arrangement. That you had consented. That it was mutual.”

"That's not true." "Yeah?" He raised a brow, and leaned in again. " You bolted from my room, and the next place you thought to be in, was at a bar? Such tendencies are enough to get you disqualified from being my PR specialist." " Then I am very glad I declined." " You didn't decline. You just ran away because you were embarrassed. And if I am being honest I want to fuck you so badly, over and over till you feel less embarrassment and more gratification."

"Tell me the difference." He set the cup down and looked at me with the eyes I'd inherited, the same shape, the same tendency to go very still when processing something difficult. "I found out this morning that Morrow was coming here directly," he said. "That wasn't the arrangement; the arrangement was that they'd approach you through official channels, through the Council process, give you time to understand what the Accord was offering before anyone made direct contact." Something tightened around his mouth. "Morrow moving without notification means the timeline changed and nobody told me, which means my consulting arrangement isn't what I thought it was."
