“But even my father was scared of him. That should tell you something.” Bella shook her head slowly. “Scared? George Reed wasn’t scared of anyone.” Jason let out a bitter laugh. “Exactly. That’s why this secret matters.” He turned from the window and walked toward his desk, pulling out a worn leather folder. He placed it on the table between them. “This was hidden in the floor safe beneath my father’s old office. Took me weeks to decode it.” Bella stared at the folder as though it might burn her fingers. “What’s in it?”

James wanted to get down to business right away. Waleria let her guard down and said with a serious expression, “The sacred scroll of the Theos Sect is a supreme treasure in the sect leader’s possession. In all of the Theos Sect, only the sect leader has seen it. I myself have never seen it, but I heard that it contains a huge secret of the sect leader. As for the nature of the secret, I have no idea.” She looked at James as she spoke. “You understood the sacred scroll of the Verde Academy?”
