Simon stands up and walks towards the door. Michael was speechless. His dreams shattered in front of him and because of that woman again. He clenched his jaw and clutch the hem of his shirt. His face suddenly feels hot. His glared at his hand then Simon stops and turn around after a few steps. He threw a brown envelope and it landed on top of the coffee table "By the way, don't bother going to that interview." Finally, Simon was gone. Michael remains seated staring at the close door. He started punching the pillows.

Our tattoo had been scalded past recognition. Soup was spilled all over the floor. A scar had been left in that spot ever since. The rose that stood for our love was gone too. I lifted my head, looked at him, and hesitated for a long moment. Then I said, "Yesterday I saw a wedding ring inside your suit."

Meanwhile, Corleone finished his cigarette and reentered the venue through a side entrance. The host was presenting me with the championship award. Holding up the hem of my burgundy gown, I walked toward the podium in my heels. Standing below the stage, Corleone looked up. The moment his eyes landed on my face, the wine glass in his hand shattered under his grip. Broken glass pierced his palm, and blood dripped onto the carpet. Yet he seemed to feel no pain. He could only stare at the woman he had spent five years searching for. His entire body trembled uncontrollably.

August lay back down and whispered into the dark, soft enough that maybe Ash wouldn’t hear: “…I remember you now.” But he did hear. Because Ash whispered back, without opening his eyes: “I never forgot you.”

I do as I’m told, squeezing the fabric as he leads me to God-knows-where. We only walk for about four seconds. He stops, and I hear a door open. “Go in.” I take an unsure step forward, then another one, fingers flared out for balance. “As soon as I shut the door, you can open your eyes… then change into that.” Change? Oh! I think I know what it is! No way! “You have one minute. No more than that.” “One?” “Yes. I’m opening the door as soon as sixty seconds are up. You know what that means, don’t you?”

“See you in a minute.” Carl gestured for me to follow him. If only I hadn’t.
