On the other hand, I was touched by his words but at the same time perplexed. My mom looked speechless too. "But being selfish cannot be good either" my mom then replied to him back. "With all due respect, I think being selfish is important. It saves time. When you are selfish, you simply ignore what the world perceives of you and that gives you a lot of time to only focus on what you are determined to achieve in life. Now that's a good thing, isn't it?" he replied with the same habitual, sweet smile on his face meeting our eyes.

"What is it about you that makes you think that you're an asshole? What makes you okay with thinking that about yourself?" She sits forward slightly, I remain reclined back in my seat. "I'm a very selfish person, I'm not known for being kind or considerate towards other people unless I get something out of it. And I'm comfortable with it because it takes the pressure off of me" I reason with her. Suddenly it seems to click with her, and she nods as she writes some words down on her page.

Could I really let him go? What would it feel like to be selfish just once?
