"Why won't you leave me?" "Because we're friends!" "Ah!" Serenity jolted out of sleep and sat up from the bed. When her eyes fluttered open, all she saw was the dim light. She was still in her rented place! Serenity breathed a sigh of relief and looked at the time. It was only 3 am. Was that a dream? She seemed to have dreamed about her younger self. “Then we’ll remember for it.” He exhaled, tension finally leaving his frame. “That sounds like a vow.” “It’s not,” she said gently. “It’s a promise.” A breeze stirred between them, carrying the faint scent of the sea. Somewhere far off, gulls cried — impossibly distant yet clear. Kaelen’s gaze softened. “You ever think we’ll have peace?” Serenya’s eyes lifted toward the sky.
