But both were born of the same moonlight—my breath, my children.” Seren tilted her head. “And which am I?” Selune smiled faintly. “That is why I’ve come.” The field dimmed slightly. The streams of magic curved together, twining until they met in a radiant burst of light. Seren felt it pulse through her chest, warm and aching, like something long dormant had stirred awake inside her. “I need your help, Seren Nightwind.” The Goddess’s voice broke softly, and for the first time, she looked—fragile. A being of eternity, trembling like a mortal.

“Then we’ll remember for it.” He exhaled, tension finally leaving his frame. “That sounds like a vow.” “It’s not,” she said gently. “It’s a promise.” A breeze stirred between them, carrying the faint scent of the sea. Somewhere far off, gulls cried — impossibly distant yet clear. Kaelen’s gaze softened. “You ever think we’ll have peace?” Serenya’s eyes lifted toward the sky. The clouds were parting, the sun climbing higher. “I think peace isn’t something you find,” she said. “It’s something you make, moment by moment.”

Serenity chuckled, taking a step closer till she was standing in front of him and lifted her hand to cup his neck, “You’ll earn their respect in time, for now, all that matters is that they fear you.” The sweet hint of her cherry blossom perfume tickled his senses, even in the darkened room, Serenity was like a beacon of light guiding him. Her hazel orbs were like his very own abyss, a place he could lose himself and drown his anger and sorrow, the only place in the world he felt safe. “I don’t know if fear alone is enough. If they too decide to turn against us, there’s no way of us surviving this.” He voiced his fear, unable to hold back form the only person in the world he truly trusted.

Seren closed its eyes, and as it began to sing, a sense of tranquility settled over the clearing. The lullaby floated through the air, its melody intertwining with the rustling leaves and the gentle hum of nature. The pack members felt the weight of their worries and burdens lifted, replaced by a deep sense of calm and serenity. The enchanting notes wove through their beings, mending the cracks within their spirits and infusing them with a renewed vitality. Emily closed her eyes, tears of gratitude pooling at the corners. "Seren, your voice is like a balm to our souls. We have faced countless challenges, and this melody reminds us of the strength and beauty that lies within."

“We’re not going to entertain that thought. You’re stronger than you think. And we’ll face this together.” Toya stepped forward, her voice calm but unyielding. “You’ll need to focus on your inner power, Serenity. Whatever the Graeae Sisters told you in that prophecy, it’s time to confront it head-on. They didn’t choose you just for your strength, but for your resilience and heart. Let that be your guide.” Serenity closed her eyes, steadying herself, drawing strength from those words. “I understand,” she said finally, looking at us both with a newfound conviction. “Then let’s end this. For the ones we lost, for those who still believe, and for those who deserve peace.”

"What's going on? Talk to me." I can't look at her yet. I need another second with this stranger who has my mother's eyes. "Your name," I say. "SEREN." Something old and half-forgotten moves in my chest at the sound of it. The Goddess's name for peace. My mother used to whisper it sometimes, in prayer. I remembered it because I thought it was beautiful and strange and I never knew who she was praying for. Now I do. "How old are you?" I ask.

Third POV Serenity sighed with a great sense of relief now. Her body leaned against the door of the library, and adjusted her breathing there. Serenity gently rubbed her chest which felt a little tight, in order to make herself much calmer. Serenity really needed that calm right now.

“For saving me. I know I didn’t do all of that alone. I could feel it. You were there with me.” The goddess stepped forward, her bare feet leaving no mark on the sand. “You were never alone, Serena. You’ve never been. I have watched you from the moment you were born—watched you struggle, suffer, love, and rise. And when the moment came, it was your mercy that summoned me.” Serena blinked. “My mercy?” “Yes,” the goddess replied. “In a world where power is often abused, where vengeance breeds more vengeance, you chose compassion. You chose to spare your enemies—even when you could have struck them down. That is the mark of a true guardian of light.”

So there I was, parenting them myself. "Serene, I've told you to stop waiting at the door like a dog for me," I chuckled, looking down at her. Serenity was a sweetheart and the fourth of the quintuplets. Her personality was like the walking embodiment of a saint. She was kind to a fault and so polite it was hard for me to decide if it was a bad or a good thing. I constantly worry about her kindness, and her small, frail body and innocent face made it even harder to talk to her about her excessive kindness.
