He stood in front of me, one hand braced beside me, the other against the mirror at my back. He looked at me, voice barely above a whisper. "Selene, what the hell has gotten into you?" I turned away. He wouldn't let me. His fingers caught my chin and turned my face back. "Talk." My eyes stung. I clenched my teeth to keep from falling apart. "I told you. It's none of your business." "Then whose business is it? Hm?" He stepped closer, his knee pressing between my legs. "That serpentfolk who just came of age? He's going to help you through your heat?"

The sleeping creature opened one eye. The entire fortress shook. Raiken stared through the floor. “What is it?” Grandmother looked at me. “The first ocean.” The blue sphere beneath the creature pulsed. Every drop of water in the chamber rose. The first king smiled through the cradle. “He did not silence the sea.” Grandmother’s chains tightened. “He woke what the sea was built to imprison.” Cael doubled over. The serpent mark reached his shoulder. His bones shifted beneath his skin. Shigure caught him before he fell.

His eyes burned crimson. "Whore! What have you done?" "I did nothing! I did nothing!" Vania's face went white. Terror filled her eyes. Laughter rang through the hall. "Ha ha ha ha! The gods favor my Serpent Clan! A golden snake, born once in a century!" A man in dark robes stepped forward and carefully cradled the tiny serpent in his hands. "Prince Caspian of the Serpent Clan!" an elder of the dragon court recognized him. The man saw he had been exposed. He turned to flee, but King Theron raised his hand and cast a binding spell.

The creatures emerged, long limbs scraping against ancient stone as their pale eyes fixed upon the two intruders. Umbra stepped in front of Nysera. She stared at his back, then smiled faintly. "Let's go." Umbra glanced over his shoulder. Together? Nysera tightened her hold on the phoenix egg. "Together." The creatures lunged. And for the first time since entering the Abyss... Nysera did not run. End of Chapter 15

Village by village, he slaughtered them all, all in the name of ridding his kingdom of spies and bandits. She stepped around gingerly, the bodies searching for her Aunt Kuya. Her dress was drenched from tripping into the bloodbath and her face was wet with tears. It was a horrible sight for a little girl of her age to behold. She had never known war, but she had hearf stories of war. She stopped when she finally saw her aunt. Her aunt's pale blue eyes looked lifeless and her dark brown hair was covered in blood. Her clothes were torn and she could see the deep slash of the sword that delivered her final blow.

With a desperate cry, I struggled to break free, but the Alpha's grip was like a vice, its strength overwhelming. As the world spun around me, I found myself teetering on the edge of the Jharna, the deafening roar of the waterfall thundering in my ears. Desperation clawed at my chest as I stared into the abyss below, the icy waters churning below like a hungry beast waiting to consume me. The Alpha finally released my shoulders and I fell to the ground hard, just as howls went up in the air from all directions. I didn’t know what was happening, but my entire body felt like it was on fire.

"This valley doesn’t just house me. It’s riddled with countless ancient formations. Since you’re so arrogant, you will suffer the consequences!" To the serpent, Adrian’s fate was sealed. With a strange, arcane gesture, the serpent began to summon an ominous power. Adrian observed the movements with a flicker of curiosity in his eyes. “I didn’t expect you to have the ability to tap into ancient formations. I’ll admit, you’ve got some tricks up your sleeve.” The serpent sneered in response. “Afraid now, are you? Pity it’s too late. Today will be your last day alive!”

Isolde, her voice thoughtful, mused, "If this is indeed a way to reach out to the Serpent, we need to be cautious. First encounters, especially with ancient entities, set the tone for all that follows." Liora, her ethereal form shimmering, added, "Isolde is right. The Celestial Serpent, in its vast wisdom and power, will gauge your intentions from the very onset. Approach with sincerity and clarity." Malachi, determination evident in his voice, declared, "Then let's understand this sequence thoroughly, its nuances and meanings before we attempt any form of communication." Niamh, softly humming the sequence, remarked, "There's a haunting beauty to it. It feels... familiar, yet distant. As if

The heart of the Serpent had awakened. I could feel it—it throbbed beneath us like a living entity, a presence older than any of us, powerful enough to devour the world. “Riven… it’s pulling me,” Luca gasped, his voice layered, fractured. Part of him, part of the power inside him, was screaming.

"That I can't have kids?" I squirmed, about to compliment her, but she hugged me tight. Her eyes sparkled like green jewels as she looked at me. "Honey, do you want to?" Her eyes cast a spell on me, and I nodded, my face warm. During the Bonding Ceremony, I felt so warm and fuzzy. "Why's it so soft?" Chloe winked at me. "Honey, you forgot. I'm from the Serpent race.
