Nathan, Adrian, and Leo froze when they saw the screen. No one spoke as the countdown continued. The war had officially begun.

I called after her. “Do you know what today is? It is our seventh wedding anniversary.” Vera stopped, and her voice sounded flat and calm. “I know.
