“It’s… alive.” The moment her fingers brushed the first page, light erupted from the book, a sphere of gold fire swallowing the chamber. Kael shielded his eyes, shouting her name. When the light dimmed, Lyra was standing at the center of a vision. She saw the first Oathkeeper kneeling before an altar of shadow, his crown shattered at his feet. The Shadow loomed above him, vast, formless, whispering promises of peace and power. “Your people will be safe,” it hissed. “Your kingdom is eternal. Only swear your blood to me.”
