" I choked out, clutching the manuscript against my chest as I backed away until my spine hit the cold stone wall. ​Gabriel smiled—a slow, terrifying curve of his lips as he stepped into the dim beam of light. ​"I told you before, little bird," Gabriel whispered, reaching out to take the corner of the parchment from my trembling hands. "There is nowhere in this town where my shadow can not reach."

"The philosophy is established. Now comes the application." He began to pack his kit. The next strike wouldn't be in a canyon or on a bridge. It would be in the "Fortress of Glass." He would bypass the "Action Legend's" security with the ease of a virus entering a cell. He would show the Sorgentone sisters that their "Unchained" voices were nothing more than static in the face of the blade’s silence. Silas Thorne extinguished the lamp. Golden light burst through the burning entrance, forming a protective barrier around Liam. Inside, shelves collapsed one after another. Ancient books turned to ash. Then... A loud explosion echoed from the forbidden archives. The fire was not ordinary. It burned blue. "Shadow Fire," Orion whispered. "It can’t be extinguished with water." The flames climbed higher. Then... A hooded figure emerged through the smoke. Only for a second. I caught a glimpse of silver eyes. The stranger noticed me watching. Without hesitation, they fled deeper into the academy. "There!" I shouted.

I demanded " And, don't you dare take my shape or you will pay for that." "Like I said you can't do anything to me or my kind. We are shadows. We are like air. Anyone or any power can pass through us and the only person who can hurt us is our mistress or the person who belongs from our shadow family." the shadow informs. "And, who is your mistress?"I asked. "Her," the shadow pointed at Minerva and got down down on his knee in front of her " She is our Queen. The Mistress to the Shadows."

Golden arrows slowly emerged, timidly trying to chase away the shadows of the night. The great fire disc made its appearance. First, it emerged as a red line growing wider and wider until it rose victorious into the angelic blue sky, ready to stretch its arms over the whole earth. It tamed its color slightly, becoming comforting as it shyly soaked up the night frost with which you would think it was soothing its own color.

It was quiet for a few minutes and he finally said, “Tilly and I have absolutely no secrets. People like you and me … we can’t be with just anyone. It’s either one night stands, fake short term relationships or nothing. You don’t just find a Tilly on every corner. A woman that will accept you, that if you are totally honest with her … won’t be afraid of you. I never had someone to … to help me. To direct me, and it damn near killed me. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. I call it my dark shadow … it’s a part of me, but it’s a part of me I can mostly keep hidden, that I can control.

She wasn't there; she didn't see it happen when I watched my shadow snap his neck in self-defense. "You’re not sure," I counter. "I am," she insists, her gaze steady and full of reassurance, almost making me feel foolish for fearing a book. Taking a deep breath, I finally open the book. It seems to anticipate my needs, flipping pages on its own until it stops at a peculiar drawing—a girl with long hair standing hands on hips, with her shadow beside her, rendered in dark charcoal as if to mirror her.

How am I so special besides being born a female instead of a male?” Corbin asks looking at the book intently before finally looking up at her dad as he stares at his hand on top of the book. “When you were about a year old. Paden showed up with this book under her arm. She told me that she found it and that it belongs to me and my blood line.” Dell sighs as he let’s go of his daughter’s other hand.
